Plain sawn is cut rotating the log, always trying to keep the defects to the edge of the boards. Plain sawn produces three types of grades of FAS, 1 Common, and 2 Common boards.
Live Sawn is cut horizontally through the log producing boards of varying widths and character.
Rift Sawn is cut in smaller quadrants sections.
Quarter Sawn is cut in a similar fashion to Rift Sawn, producing wider boards.
